Mary Wardell-Ghiraduzzi has been named Pacific’s inaugural Vice-President of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Dr. Ghiraduzzi currently serves at University of San Francisco as the Vice Provost for Diversity Engagement and Community Outreach. She will begin her new post at Pacific on July 1st, 2021.

In an announcement to students, President Callahan thanked students and faculty who were involved in making this historic decision. 

“The committee demonstrated a caring and thoughtful approach that led to a tremendous outcome,” said Callahan. 

Dr. Ghiraduzzi is a Stockton native and a Pacific alumna. She graduated in 1989 with a B.A.in Communications . She then proceeded on to San Diego State University for her M.A. in Cross Cultural Counseling and Social Justice Education. She received her Doctorate of Education in Organizational Behavior and Leadership Studies at Pepperdine University in 2011.

“Dr. Wardell-Ghirarduzzi has an extraordinary record of DEI leadership at USF and also is a prominent figure across the San Francisco community,” added President Callahan, who created this position after his July 1st arrival. 

Dr. Wardell-Ghiraduzzi’s record includes designing new DEI courses at USF and implementing strategic new initiatives to promote inclusivity on campus.  She also has been the President of the San Francisco Public Library Commission since 2014. Additionally, San Francisco Mayor London Breed named her a 2018 Human Rights Defender for Gender Equality 

Dr. Ghiraduzzi will be working with students, staff, and faculty across all three of Pacific’s campuses and with diversity directors that were newly appointed at all of Pacific’s schools and colleges.
